Arrival in the morning in Newcastle.

Since the 15th century Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. Since 1999 Edinburgh is also the seat of the Scottish Parliament. The city has much to offer and you can experience the city conveniently by foot. The first part is the Royal Mile, the backbone of this old city – the second part is the New Town. Both city districts are worth while visiting and it is always recommended to make a hop on/hop of tour, to explore all attractions conveniently.

Our highlight in the evening is a visit to the Royal Edingburgh Military Tattoo (the largest music festival in Scotland).

DAY 3: EDINBURGH

Day`s stage: 360 km – overnight stay in Edinburgh

Day trip to the lochs and castles of the West Highlands. We start early in the morning and ride to Doune Castle first. Doune Castle is a castle of the late Middle Ages in the former County of Stirling, Perthshire, in Scotland. It stands on a rocky outcrop over Teith River, 13 km southeast of the city of Callander at the foot of the Trossach Mountains in the Scottish Highlands. Here the shooting of “Game of Thrones” has taken place. We ride on through the Highlands, pass magnificent lochs and historic castles and reach Kilchurn Castle. It is situated on the shore of Loch Awe and is one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland. Our next stop is in the small Highland village Inveraray for a visit of Inveraray Castle. The castle is the home of the Duke of Argyll, head of the Campbell clan. We ride through the Arrochar Alps and have a wonderful view to “Rest and Be Thankful” Pass. Our next stop is at Loch Lomond, the largest freshwater lake in Scotland, before returning to Edinburgh after an intermediate stop at the Glasgow Harley dealer.

DAY 4: PERTH

Day`s stage: 180 km – overnight stay in Perth

We leave Edinburg in the morning over the great hanging bridge of the Forth River in Scotland, which spans the Firth of Forth, an estuary reaching well into the land and being a world heritage site.

We always follow the coastline and pass Aberdour Castle. We ride through Kirkcaldy to Elie Ness Lighthouse where we have a photo stop. We ride on to St. Andrews and visit the cathedral. One of the main attractions of St. Andrews is surely the Cathedral of St. Andrews or its ruins. The cathedral was the seat of the bishops or archbishops of St. Andrews. We ride over the Tay Road Bridge / Dundee to Perth. We make a detour to Scone Palace. Formerly the coronation place of the Scottish kings and home of the coronation stone “Stone of Scout”, it is today the beautiful family residence of Earl of Mansfield and famous for its special collections of ivory, porcelain, clocks and Gobelins. Harley Perth is on our way.

DAY 5: ABERDEEN

Day`s stage: 175 km – overnight stay in Aberdeen

This morning we cross Glen Shee, the highest pass of Scotland (highest point 1,068 m), and ride on to the well-preserved ruins of Dunnottar Castle, situated on dramatically looking cliffs, about 50 m over the North Sea. Wallace and Cromwell used it as battlefield and the film “Hamlet” was made here in 1991. From the rampart, you can watch puffins and dolphins. We go on riding and reach fabulous Crathes Castle and Drum Castle, a beautiful Jacobin estate. Afterwards we ride directly on to Aberdeen, well-known for its granite architecture and called “Silver City”.

DAY 6: INVERNESS

Day`s stage: 300 km – overnight stay in Inverness

We follow the coastal road and cross Peterhead, the easternmost point of Scotland to Elgin and the ruin of the Elgin Cathedral. It is a mystic place and you should go to the top of the tower in any case, where you have a wonderful panoramic view. Now we ride along the Whisky Trail and visit the famous distillery Glenfiddich. Our destination of today is Inverness, a compact cosmopolitan city with heart and the wonderful Highlands in front of it. Walk through the center of the city and admire Inverness Castle and St. Andrew´s Cathedral. A walk on Ness Island Walk is recommended. You start at Inverness Castle and walk down the way at Island Bank Road, passing the War Memorial and lots of small flower beds, tended with loving care. After about one kilometer you reach a small metal hanging bridge, which leads only a few meters to a small island in the river. Now your Ness Islands walk begins… You can see wooden Nessie and much more attractions.

DAY 7: INVERNESS

Day`s stage: 275 km – overnight stay in Inverness

Day trip: No Scotland holiday is complete without having visited Loch Ness. More than 30 m long, nearly 2 km wide and 200 m deep, it is the biggest lake in Scotland. Around Loch Ness you find many historical attractions, natural wonders and culinary delights. We ride to Dunrobin Castle afterwards. Dunrobin Castle is a castle on the eastern coast of Scotland, about two kilometers in the north of Golspie. It is the seat of the Sutherland clan and the Earl of Sutherland. This castle, which reminds you of Disney, Neuschwanstein and French chateaux, is in the middle of the Highlands, a dreamlike backdrop in front of the sea. Another destination are the dolphins in Cromarty. Back in Inverness we ride over the Kessock Bridge.

DAY 8: GAIRLOCH

Day`s stage: 160 km – overnight stay in Gairloch

This morning we pass Black Isle, a piece of land in the eastern Scottish Highlands. On our way, we visit the Rogie Falls. Directly over the waterway which squeezes through a rocky landscape, a hanging bridge for persons not afraid of height has been constructed, which we, off course, use. We ride on and reach Corrieshalloch Gorge National Nature Reserver with a splendid waterfall. We pass some lakes and ride to Gairloch, a place on the northwestern coast of Scotland.

DAY 9: ISLE OF SKYE

Day´s stage: 150 km – overnight stay in Isle of Skye

Today we ride back to the south to Kyle of Lochalsh. On our way, we visit Eilean Donan Castle – used as film set for Highlander, James Bond and even Bollywood. The castle enthrones on a small island, which is completely flushed by the see at high tide. You access the island only over a long wonderful stone bridge. We ride over the Skybridge to the Isle of Skye. Skye is the biggest island of the Inner Hebrides. It is situated directly in front of the western coast of the Scottish mainland in the Atlantic Ocean.

DAY 10: ISLE OF SKYE

Overnight stay on Isle of Skye

Day at leisure. Skye is really a magic place. This island inspires you in many ways with mountains, breathtaking coastlines and impressive history. We optionally offer a short day trip on the island.

DAY 11: OBAN

Day´s stage: 200 km – overnight stay in Oban

We take the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig and ride along the “Road of Isles”, passing white beaches and the possibility to see many islands. We cross Fort William, the touristic mainstay in the Highlands. It is situated at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain. You can take the gondola to have a wonderful view. Our destination of today is Oban, a touch of Rome in the Highlands. One of the oldest distilleries is situated here. The McCaig´s Tower over the city is the incomplete replica of the Rome colosseum. The local banker John Stuart McCaig had the monument built in 1897, to occupy local workers during the cold winter months and to establish a monument to his family.

DAY 12: OBAN

Overnight stay in Oban

Day at leisure. You can book optionally: boat trip to the Inner Hebrides Mull, Iona and Staffa. The trip starts at Orban harbor. We enjoy the wonderful landscape and the Islands of Mull (island of eagles, deers, seals and dolphins) and Iona. It is the spiritual center of Scotland, known as the starting place for Christianity in the Highlands. Afterwards we ride to the uninhabited Island of Staffa (island of columns).

DAY 13: GLASGOW

Day`s stage: 210 km – overnight stay in Glasgow

Today we cross Kilmartin, close to the Scottish western coast in the direction of Glasgow. We watch prehistorical monuments. We pass Loch Goil and make a detour to Hill House in Helensburgh, a house designed and largely arranged by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. He counts among the design icons of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the influx of the Rivers Leven and Clyde the mighty Dumbarton Rock protrudes from the landscape. Dumbarton Castle with its 1,500 years of history is situated there, the scenery of many battles and combats in the past. Our destination of today is Glasgow.
