After breakfast, we start our 150-km tour around the Cape Town peninsula. We ride on the Chapman`s Peak Drive, one of the most popular symbols of Cape Town. It is a 9-km long coastal road, which winds with 114 curves directly between sea and steep cliffs from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. Afterwards we ride to the Cape of Good Hope and to the Cape Point, where we have lunch.
Our program continues with the visit of an ostrich farm and a penguin colony. Our way back to Hout Bay runs through Constantia. Constantia is a southern suburb of the South African city of Cape Town. It has become popular due to its wineries and it is an exclusive residential district. Pollsmore prison is located here, too, in which Nelson Mandela was arrested from 1982 to 1989, after his 18 years of imprisonment on Robben Island. Joint dinner in Hout Bay in the evening.
DAY 3: MONTAGU
Day`s stage: 200 km – overnight stay: Montagu, Mimosa Lodge
After loading our luggage into the support vehicle, we ride along the road in the direction of Montagu today. We enjoy the endless beauty of African landscape and have some photo breaks on the way. When we are hungry, we have a break and refresh with snacks and cool drinks. Soon we reach Montagu in Little Kaaro at the confluence of Keisie and Kingna River. The place is characterized by many Cape Dutch and Victorian buildings.
The small historic village is one of the highlights along famous Route 62, which is one of the longest wine routes worldwide. Montagu is considered the gate to Little Karoo, a spectacular red and brown colored semi-desert. Before dinner you have enough time to relax at the pool. After a long day on the bike a massage would be fine – no problem, our trained masseur is on board with us and is waiting for you!ch!
The restaurant in Mimosa Lodge is a gourmet restaurant specialized on wild game dishes. You can enjoy a variety of regional specialties, such as ostrich.
DAY 4: OUDSTHOORN
Day`s stage: 240 km – overnight stay: Oudsthoorn, Buffelsdrift Tented Luxury Game Lodge
Today we ride the famous Route 62, one of the most beautiful travel routes in South Africa. The route runs through different wine regions. After leaving Montagu and crossing Cogman`s Pass, we reach the most beautiful part and ride again through the typical Kaaro landscape. On this route, we come to the popular Ronnie`s sex shop in the middle of this inhospitable area. However, it cannot be called a sex shop. Without a doubt Ronnie is very special. Travelers like to refresh here and everybody leaves something (visiting card …). Götz George was here, too, the autograph card hangs next to the entrance.
Further down the route in Ladysmith is the biggest lavender farm in South Africa. Our destination Oudsthoorn is situated in a wonderful landscape, embedded in the Swart Mountains in the north and the Outeniqua Mountains in the south. It is the center of the ostrich industry with many ostrich farms, many visitors come every day. In the free-standing tents of the award-winning Buffelsdrift Lodge we enjoy a view to the Swart Mountains and a water place for wildlife species.
In the afternoon, we go on a safari. Buffelsdrift is a safari lodge. We enjoy beauty and fascination of nature and impressive animals on a safari (on request bookable on-site). The à-la-carte restaurant has a terrace at the water`s edge. We enjoy first-class wines and dishes of the Kaaro nation, prepared with fresh regional products.

We walk the rest. We ride through Willowmore, a city with many buildings from the Gründerzeit. Our destination is Graaff-Reinet. Today our absolute highlight takes place: “The Valley of Desolation”. This natural monument is a bizarre rocky valley, a very special attraction due to its columnar secretions of Karoo dolerites. The ride to the valley is well worthwhile. First the road climbs along a small valley and after about 6 km we have an excellent view to Graaff-Reinet and the Camdeboo Plain, nearly 500 m situated below.
Diagonally opposite is the Spandau Koppe, which got its name from a German cavalry officer. The Spandau Koppe reminded him of the Spandauburg in his home country. After another 3 km we reach the parking, from which we walk five minutes to the viewing platforms. We are in the Camdeboo National Park. The two areas of the Camdeboo National Park surround the historic center of the city of Graaff-Reinet. The Nqweba Dam which borders the city area, is another part of this area.
In the evening, we enjoy a four-course-menu in Gordon`s Restaurant. Gordon`s Restaurant in the guest house is popular for its cuisine in Karoo style and the excellent service. We pass original locations of many film and TV scenes, that have been shot in this wonderful nature. The turquoise water attracts many visitors.
Arniston, where we stay overnight, is 190 km away from Cape Town. The Arniston Hotel is one of the village´s highlights. From the hotel rooms, you can see the sea. Above all, Arniston Hotel scores with its nearly perfect restaurant, where the most different delicious dishes are served.
DAY 11: HERMANUS
Day`s stage: 130 km – overnight stay in Hermanus, Harbour House Hotel
From Arniston to Hermanus we ride only 130 km today. The small town Hermanus is the global capital of whale watching. Nowhere else you approach sea mammals as close.
