DAY 1: CAPE TOWN

Overnight stay: Cape Town

Flight with renowned airline from Frankfurt am Main or Hamburg (optional) to Cape Town (transfer connection possible). Meeting point in the terminal. Arrival in Cape Town, transfer to the hotel. Now you have enough time to check in and have a rest. Dinner together in Cape Town

 

DAY 2: CAPE TOWN

Day`s stage: 150 km – overnight stay: Cape Town

After breakfast, we start our 150-km long tour around the Cape Peninsula. We ride along Chapman`s Peak Drive, one of the most famous landmarks of Cape Town. It is a 9 km long coastal road, which winds with 114 curves directly between the sea and steep cliffs from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. Then we ride to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Our program continues with the visit of an ostrich farm and a penguin colony. Our way back to Cape Town runs through Constantia. Constantia is a southern suburb of the South African city of Cape Town. It has become popular due to its wineries and it is an exclusive residential district. Pollsmore prison is located here, too, where Nelson Mandela was arrested from 1982 to 1989 after his 18 years of imprisonment on Robben Island. Joint dinner in Hout Bay in the evening.

 

DAY 3: Aquila Private Game Reserve

After breakfast we leave for Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, where I drive for 2 hours. Scheduled visit. The Botanical Garden is located on the east side of Table Mountain and a visit is a must on any Cape Town trip. There you only see local, South African plants. He is considered one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

It continues past the University of Cape Town out of town. The journey continues through the Hawequas Nature Reserve past several wineries over the Hex River Pass, a beautiful route filled with vineyards and fruit farms.

 

DAY 4: Aquila Private Game Reserve

The Aquila Private Game Reserve offers a safari experience with views of the mountains and countryside. The reserve has an outdoor pool and an on-site spa. Each unit at the Aquila is decorated in an African style with wooden furniture and features an outdoor shower, a fan and a minibar, which can be stocked on request. Some units have a private terrace or balcony overlooking the reserve. The Aquila has an extensive buffet restaurant with an upstairs viewing area with scenic views of the Karoo Mountains. DAY 5: Clanwilliam

Day´s stage: 215 km – overnight stay in Clanwilliam (Yellow Aloe)

Today we continue along the Cedar Mountains, a mountain range made of sandstone. They belong to the mountain formation of the Cape fold belt. The mountains are known for their colorful flower carpets in the spring, as well as for their caves with historical petroglyphs. At Citrusdal lies the Middelberg Pass and at today's destination - Clanwilliam - lies the Pakhuis Pass. Another special feature is the Rooibos plant cultivated almost exclusively in the Cedar Mountains worldwide. Clainwilliam is one of the oldest cities in South Africa. It is located in a warm, well-watered valley with fertile soil. Here u u. a. the rooibos (red bush), which supplies the rooibos tea.

 

DAY 6: Springbok

Day´s stage: 268 km - overnight stay: Springbok (Naries Namakwa Retreat)

After a great breakfast, the path continues north - towards the sun - straight ahead. The goal today is Springbok. Springbok is the supply center of Namaqualandes, a region of South Africa and Namibia on both sides of the lower reaches of the Orange. The city got its name after the big springbok herds, who roamed the area in the 19th century, until they were almost wiped out by the settlers. The history of the city is marked by mining. Springbok is located at about 1000 m altitude in a valley of Klein Koperberge. From Springbok it is still half an hour to beautiful accommodation. In the evenings, watch the sun set over a snack and enjoy a delicious 3-course meal (included in the price). The overnight stay in the cottages is about 1 km away from the main house and is just fantastic. You can watch many animals!

 

DAY 7: Augrabievalles Nationalpark

Day´s stage: 357 km – overnight stay in Augrabievalles

Today, drive from Springbok to the Agrabie Falls. It passes over the spectacle Pass and over winding roads before the desert is reached - Bushmanland. Bushmanland is the historical name for a homeland located in northeastern Southwest Africa, today's Namibia. Just before the destination is reached, it goes through "Green Kalahari". Green Kalahari is the term used to refer to Siyanda district, which is surrounded by the Namaqualand, Karoo, Diamantveld and Kalahari regions of the south, bordering on its neighbors Namibia and Botswana in the north. There you will find the impressive red dunes. Lonely landscapes where hardly a vehicle gets lost. Afternoon arrives at Augrabie Falls National Park. Dinner at the lodge. Possibility to participate in a safari in the sunset (optional bookable).

 

DAY 8: Kathu

Day`s stage: 342 km – overnight stay in Kathu

It goes along the banks of the Oranje River over Keimoes, a small town that lives mainly from wine growing. Here, the grapes are mainly processed into raisins, which are also seen in large fields on the streets. Keimoes is known by the living there mouse colonies. Worth seeing in the city is an old water wheel, which is still in operation and supplies the surrounding grapevines with water from the Oranje. Another town on the way is Upington in the Kalahari Desert, amidst fertile fields. It offers few, but important for the region flights. Here you can even admire a donkey monument. It was erected in honor of the animals to which the farmers owe mainly the success of artificial irrigation. Upington is considered one of the hottest cities in South Africa. Not infrequently the thermometer exceeds the 40 degree mark in summer. So here also thrive particularly good sherries and dessert wines. Kathu is today a stopover on the way forward. Popular attractions near Kathuhari Guesthouse include Kathu High School, United Reformed Church and the Reformed Church.

 

DAY 9: Kimberley

Today there is another short tour with a very interesting sightseeing program. It goes directly to Kimberley and the property is right next to "The Big Hole", the open pit mine of the former Kimberley Mine that was used to mine diamonds until 1914. The hole is often referred to as the largest man-made hole ever. It has an area of ​​17 ha and at the earth's surface a perimeter of 1.6 km and a diameter of 460 m. The Big Hole is located in the heart of the city and on the one hand because of the huge dimensions and on the other because of the mining and open-air museum on the edge of the Big Hole worth seeing. There is also a historic tram between the Stadthalle and the museum. The visit of the "Big Hole" is planned and a guided tour of the museum and the grinding shop.

 

DAY 10: GRAAF-REINET

Day`s stage: 473 km – overnight stay in Graaf Reinet

It goes to Graaf-Reinet. Today the absolute highlight is "The Valley of Desolation". The Valley of Desolation is a bizarre rock valley that is a natural landmark because of its columnar segregation of karoo dolerites. Already the route is worth the trip. First, the road climbs steeply along a small valley, and after about 6 km, we have an excellent view of the almost 500 m lower Graaff-Reinet and the Camdeboo level. Diagonally opposite is the Spandau Koppe, which got its name from a German equestrian officer, whom she reminded of the Spandauburg in his homeland. After another 3 km you reach the parking lot, from which you can walk to the viewing platforms in five minutes. You are in the Camdeboo National Park. The two areas of Camdeboo National Park surround the historic center of Graaff-Reinet. The adjacent to the city Nqweba dam is another part of its territory. DAY 11: Hitgeheim Country Lodge, Addo Nationalpark

On the way to the next destination is the Daniell Cheetah Breeding Project. DAY 13: Oudtshoorn

Today we drive along the coast along the famous Garden Route to Oudtshoorn. Our destination is nestled in beautiful surroundings between the Swart Mountains in the north and the Outeniqua Mountains in the south. It is the center of the ostrich industry with many ostrich farms and attracts many visitors every day.

 

DAY 14: Cape Town

Day`s stage: 420 km – overnight stay in Cape Town

Today we drive the famous Route 62, one of the most beautiful itineraries in South Africa. The route leads through various wine-growing regions. You drive through the typical Kaaro landscape again. On the way in Ladismith is the largest lavender farm in South Africa. On this route is also the famous Ronnies Sex Shop in the middle of the inhospitable landscape. Sexshop can not be mentioned here. Ronnie is without a doubt unique. Travelers like to take a refreshment here. Anyone who stops here leaves something (business cards ...).
