Day`s stage: 290 km – overnight stay in Princeton

After breakfast, we load your luggage into the support vehicle and pick up our motorcycles from the rental station. We leave Vancouver and arrive at Hard Rock Cafe where we have a short break, perhaps for a snack. Today we ride always along Fraser River and cross it several times. It is the longest river (1,375 km) of the Canadian province British Columbia and it originates nearby Mount Robson in the Rocky Mountains. The Trans-Canada-Highway runs on the other side of the Fraser River. After riding through the small town Hope, we reach the Manning Provincial National Park, cross it and stop at the Visitor Center. Now we ride along the Similkamee River in the direction of our hotel in Princeton. Princeton is a small town (650 m high), which was founded at least 7500 years ago.

Day`s stage: 411 km – overnight stay in Balfour

tag03 1 tours of legendsWe ride along the Similkameen River (originates in Manning Provincial Park) and cross Bromley Rock Provincial National Park. There we have a wonderful view to the river. We pass the old gold mining town Hedley and Keremeos, a small town in the middle of the vineyards. We reach Lake Osoyoos, which is the warmest freshwater lake in Canada and attracts many tourists in summer. tag03Now we ride closely to the border of Montana / USA. We pass Johnston Creek Provincial National Park and go on riding along the Kettle River. There are still some more little towns and we have one or two breaks, such as at Boundary Falls and Lake Christina. At Kootenay River, we ride on to our destination of today through Nelson, a wonderful small town on the shore of the Kootenay Lake, and cross Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. We sleep at Kootenay Lake, a reservoir with a size of 407 m².

Day`s stage: 381 km – overnight stay in Whitefish

tag04Today we cross the Kootenay Lake with the ferry first. On the ferry, you can watch the scenery for 30 minutes free of charge, which is unique in the world. It is advisable to reach the ferry at 6:30 a.m. The next would only run at 8:10 a.m. We ride on along the lake through Kootenay National Forest, which is on the border of Montana (ESTA application necessary!) and pass the Kootenay Falls. tag04There is a hanging bridge and perhaps we walk across it. We cross some smaller towns and pass several lakes, such as Mc Gregor Lake. If we are lucky, we perhaps see some buffalos at Thompson River Ranch. We ride through Kalispell, a city near Glacier National Park, a starting point for visits to the park. In Kalispell is a Harley dealer. Our destination of today is Whitefish at Whitefish Lake just in front of Glacier National Park.

Day`s stage: 280 km – overnight stay in Pincher Creek

tag05Today we ride along the Going to the Sun Road, a picturesque mountain road in the Rocky Mountains of the western US, located in the Glacier National Park in Montana. The Sun Road is the only road crossing the park. The highest point of the road is the Loan Pass on 2,026 m. The narrow and curvy road has hairpin curves and is in an incredibly beautiful landscape with mountains, lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and wild animals over a short distance (80 km). tag05We make stops at Lake McDonald, Red Rock Point, on the shore of the picturesque St. Mary Lake and where we like. On the way to the next hotel we should ride to the Waterton Lakes National Park in any case. It is a world heritage site and named after the three big lakes Upper, Middle and Lower Waterton. A highlight is the Prince of Wales Hotel. We are back in Canada..

Day`s stage: 328 km – overnight stay in Canmore

Day`s stage: 365 km – overnight stay in Jasper

The views on this highway are spectacular. Turquoise blue lakes, magnificent mountains, snowy mountain peaks, ice blue glaciers and wonderful views. One would really like to stop every few meters to take a picture. We start at Peyto Lake. Only a few minutes away from the parking you have a breathtaking view to lake and Rocky Mountains. We go on riding to Jasper National Park. Shortly after the entry we reach Columbia Icefield, which is one of the biggest accumulations of ice south of the polar circle. Part of the Columbia Icefield (Athabasca and parts of the Dome and Stutfield Glacier) is visible from the Icefields Parkway. Viewing from Glacier Skywalk (16 euros per person) would be possible. The small island is one of the attractions of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and with its mountain peaks behind it offers one the most famous photo shoots in Jasper National Park. According to a legend of the local natives the island was the secret meeting point of a young pair of lovers coming from hostile tribes. When the father of the young woman found out about this love affair, he prohibited his daughter to come to the island ever again. Her lover, however, always returned to this place till the end of his days and waited for her until he finally died there.
