Day 1:

Daily stage (possibility 1): 440 km

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 1tour13 romantikhotel boeld logo tours of legendsGetting to our quartier * * * * Romantik Hotel Böld directly at the Ammer in Oberammergau, which is our start and finish for the next days!
After dinner the visit of the King Ludwig Fire in Oberammergau is planned. Every year on the 24th of August there is a traditional feast held in honour of the former Regent King Ludwig II. This highlight should not be missed. It starts at 9pm, when three firecrackers shots sound and the music band tunes the chorale below the summit Cross of the Kofel. The fires on the surrounding mountains are then reheated. An unforgettable experience when the Ammergau Alps are on fire.

Day 2: Around the Zugspitze

Daily Stage: 240 km

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 2Our first destination today is the monastery of Ettal, a Benedictine abbey. With its imposing baroque basilica and the Rococo sacristy, it is well known beyond the borders. Continue to the second largest lake in Tyrol, the Plansee at 1000 m above sea level through the Nature park region around Reutte. The well-known old Roman road, via Claudia Augusta, crosses the region and suggests a turbulent past. We drive via Berwang to the Namloser Valley, also known as Kelmer saddle. The route through the Namloser Valley is one of the most beautiful routes in Tyrol. We are rewarded with fantastic views and a spectacular street course. It then goes over the Hahntennjoch to Imst, a historic small town in the middle of the Tyrolean Oberland, surrounded by striking mountain ranges. Nassereith, Telfs and go to Seefeld. As one of the most famous winter sports centres, Seefeld is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Austria and has already hosted several Olympic Winter Games. Another goal today is the Leutasch Ghost Gorge. Deep in the crevices, the spirit of the gorge has been sitting for many millennia! He rarely shows up. On the paths through the Ghost Gorge you learn a lot about the legend about the spirit of the gorge. Back to Oberammergau it goes through the middle forest and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Day 3: Walchensee Kraftwerk and Zugspitze

Daily Stage: 300 km

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 3We drive along the Ammer towards Oberau, past the Bear Cave of Oberammergau, a cave in the dense limestone rock. We continue in an enchanting landscape on the northern edge of the Alps to the Schledorf monastery. The monastery of Schlehdorf is now a convent of the mission Dominicans of King William's town in South Africa. It is located directly on the northern edge of the Bavarian Alps on the Kochelsee south of Munich and is run by about 60 mission Dominicans. On the monastery grounds there is a guesthouse and a monastery shop, as well as a secondary school of the Diocese of Munich and Freising, to which the monastery belongs as exclave. Then we visit the Walchensee power plant. The Walchensee power Plant is one of the largest high pressure storage power plants in Germany. After that we will go to the Zugspitze with the new Eibsee cable car. With 2,962 m The Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany and one of the parade-mountains of the Alps. In good weather you can enjoy the 4-country view of the two and three thousand (and the only four thousand) of the Eastern Alps. From Garmisch-Partenkirchen it goes back to Oberammergau.

Day 4:

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 4This day is at your leisure.
From our side, a trip to the Passion Theatre in Oberammergau is planned with a guided tour and then a trip with the Hörnle suspension train. This lift is a unique you should have tried. Correctly referred to is a floating track with swivel double seats. Within 20 minutes you can float comfortably to the summit. A visit to the Bear Cave of Oberammergau, a cave in the dense limestone rock, round off this day.

Day 5: King Ludwig's Castles

Daily Stage: 200 km

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 5Our way brings us today past the Wieskirche at Stein Garden, one of the most famous Rococo churches in the world and past the monastery rotten book through the Ammergau Alps. Inside, the idea of the Bavarian church rococo was realized above all by the generous decoration with stucco. There are also frescoes by Matthew Günther. The bell tower is also considered to be something special, as it is free-standing, so it is not based on the nave or the surrounding monastic buildings. On the way we drive over the Echelsbacher Bridge, an arch bridge over the Ammer. The 183-metre-long building was completed in the year 1929 with 900,000 Reichsmark construction costs and was the most stretched Melan arch bridge in the world with 130 meters of arch span. The roadway is 76 meters above the valley. The bridge was known for many suicides that occurred there. Above the feet we go first to the castle Hohenschwangau. It is just opposite the Neuschwanstein Castle, which is our next stop. Both castles can be reached by horse-drawn carriage. 1832-1836 crown Prince Maximilian of Bavaria rebuilt the decayed castle Schwanstein in neo-Gothic style. Here King Ludwig II lived not only his youth, this castle served him as a summer residence until his death in 1886. The tour of both castles is only possible in the context of a guided tour of approx. 120 min. The building was built from 1869 for the Bavarian King Ludwig II as an idealized idea of a knight's castle from the period of the Middle Ages. On the way back to Oberammergau we visit the Castle Lindnerhof, the "Royal Villa".

Day 6: Bavarian lakes and the Holy Mountain Andechs

Daily Stage: 220 km

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 6Today we drive again via the Echelsbacher Bridge via Hohenpreißenberg to the Raisting station. The Earth Radio site Raisting is a ground station that communicates with satellites via radio and thus enables a worldwide wireless transmission of data. It consists of several antennas. Known as Radom (Radar Dome), the 1964 antenna i is a monument-protected symbol for modern Bavaria. After that it goes to the Ammersee and to the monastery Andechs. If you are looking for pleasure for body and soul, a trip to the "Holy Mountain" is recommended. It is perched on the eastern shore of the Ammersee, in the midst of the Starnberg-five-lakes country, the plant of the Andechs monastery. With an affiliated brewery, Bräustüberl, Cloister Inn and an extensive cultural programme, the monastery is today a magnet for visitors from all over the world. The next destination is the lake Starnberg, which is only 25 km southwest of Munich and which is called the "bathtub of Munich" because of its proximity to the provincial capital. Made famous by the mysterious death of the fairytale King Ludwig II, the lake, like no other in Bavaria, offers many old mansions and castles. We continue to the Bernried museum. The Bernried Museum, also known as the "Museum of Fantasy", is located close to the municipality of Höhenrieder Park on the shores of Lake Starnberg. It is named after the artist Lothar Günther Book Heim, who in addition to his work as a painter, photographer and art collector was especially known for his novel "The Boat". Back to our hotel it goes via Penzberg and Murnau.

Day 7: Arlberg Pass and Oberammergau

Daily Stage: 180 km

Tour 13 – Ammergauer Alpen und Zugspitzregion – Tag 7Over Garmisch-Partenkirchen and over the Fernpaß we drive today via the Arlberg pass. The Arlberg pass between Langen am Arlberg (Vorarlberg) to St. Anton am Arlberg (Tirol) has a length of 18 kilometers and 9 sweeps. Back to Oberammergau, the Namloser Valley and the Plansee pass. The rest of the day is available for free.
